Dirty Thirty…

Today is my birthday!  I’ve hit the bit 3-0.  I remember when thirty seemed so… *old*.  I look back fondly at my 20’s – but I’m excited about what lies ahead in my thirties.  This last year has been life changing for me.  In October 2009 I had RNY gastric bypass surgery.  As of now I’ve lost 122 pounds.  I feel fantastic.  I feel like ME again.  For a long, long time I was miserable.  I felt like I had lost myself.  Now I’m back.

Back to my birthday – so far today I’ve been taken out to lunch, received an Old Navy gift card, been delievered a Sonic Diet Cherry Limeade, and had my Facebook page blown up with birthday wishes.  I feel very loved.  Tonight I’m going out to dinner.  What a great day!!  This weekend will be spent at my parents house.  My mom is making me my favorite thing in the world – King Crab legs.  Man, I’m drooling about it already.  YUM!

Mason has decided he wants to take me on a trip as my birthday gift.  I’m so excited!  We haven’t been on a trip, just the two of us, since before the kids were born!  We need this so badly.  We’re thinking of going to the Oregon Coast – one of my favorite places.  I can’t wait!!

My first stab at blogging…

I’ve never kept a blog before.  My hopes is that this blog will be a good look into my life.  What does my life include?  Well, for starters it includes me, of course.  I’m Sarah.  In 8 days I will hit a big milestone in my life – I’ll be 30.  That’s a big number.  No longer will I be able to say I’m “in my 20’s.”  Does it make me feel old?  Not really.  But it does make me want to get out there and enjoy life.  Time slips by so quickly.  Here’s me… redhead, wife, mother, daughter, sister.

So what else does my life include?  It includes my husband, Mason.  We were married on May 17, 2003.  We met in August 2000.  He’s amazing.  He’s wonderful to me.  He’s wonderful to our kids.  I couldn’t ask for a better man.  Plus, he’s pretty darn handsome to boot.

The final component of my daily life are my children, Tanner and Emma.  Tanner Christian was born in November of 2004.  His sister Emma Joy joined our family in August 2007.  Having childen is different then I thought it would be.  It’s just as amazing as I always expected, but it’s also more challenging that I ever imagined.  Children teach you a lot.  They teach you unconditional love, what the true meaning of life is, and how difficult it is to remove red Koolaid from carpet.  They are just entering the phase of their lives where they want to fight with each other.  A lot.  They know each other’s buttons and push them over and over, ad nauseum.  On the flip side of that, they have a deep love for each other that only siblings can share.  It’s a beautiful thing to watch.

So there you go.  That’s my family.  In this blog I hope to not only write about my day to day stories, but also to share my passion with you.  I love to cook.  My mom taught me most of what I know, and from there I’ve expanded my knowledge over the years.  I want to share recipes with you that I love.

There will be other topics I’ll touch on as well, but we’ll get there in time.

Welcome to my world.
